Sorry for the lack of updates the past two weeks. Last week I was in PMP classes, and frankly didn’t have much to post about. This week, I have been slammed with work. I went to do a post Tuesday night after I got home from the gym, but our internet was out. It didn’t come back until I was asleep.
This week has been a good one so far. In addition to getting in my usual four mile runs on Tuesday and this morning, I did some speed work Wednesday. I also managed to walk over to the Y and do some lifting. Sidenote: I’ve been a member of the YMCA of the Mid South for nearly four years, across two different facilities. Our entry passes are laminated paper keychains that have a barcode and number on them. Over time, these things deteriorate, especially when wet. Mine is essentially destroyed at this point. Seriously, the laminate has completely separated from both sides of the paper, and you can barely make out the barcode anymore. I went to the front desk to ask about getting a replacement, and I was told it’ll be $10 for a new one. WHAT? This isn’t an electronic fob to get into an apartment building or parking garage. That I understand. This is literally a piece of paper laminated. Luckily, you can download the YMCA of the Mid South app and input your member number, and it generates your barcode.
Anyway, I made it to the gym to lift. I hadn’t been in the weight room there for awhile, and man was it busy! Why were the January Joiners still there? I thought once the calender moved to February, they stop going. It was hard to get access to any equipment, and there was a line for certain things like treadmills. I managed to do some barbell squats, deadlift, dumbell bench (all the benches were impossibly busy) and some core work before calling it a day and walking home. Good first effort back at heavy lifting, though I suspect it’ll take a long time to get back to where I was a few years ago. But we all start somewhere, don’t we?
All of this running and lifting has led to an annoying side effect: my legs feel exhausted. Just absolutely beat to hell. I’ve got another strength session tomorrow, and then my long run Saturday, so I’m really looking forward to Sunday Rest Day. I really need it. Next week is full of business travel, but I hope to bring my shoes and get a run or two in. Running along the beach in L.A.? Yes please!
